Five machined stainless steel pump wear rings of different diameters

We make wear rings to your drawing, in the grade your drawing calls for: 316, 431 and 420 stainless, duplex, CA6NM cast stainless, tin and phosphor bronzes, grey and nickel cast iron. Small batches run on our two CNC turning centres; large-diameter rings are turned on a gap-bed lathe.

What is a pump wear ring?

A wear ring is a replaceable ring fitted to the pump casing (casing wear ring) or to the impeller (impeller wear ring). The two run close together and wear instead of the casing and impeller. When the gap opens up, the rings are replaced.

Rings we make

  • Casing wear rings and impeller wear rings, to the drawing number and revision you send.
  • Neck rings, spacer rings and lantern rings, made the same way.
  • One ring for a breakdown, or a batch for a service programme.

What to send for a wear ring quote

  1. The drawing number and revision, or the old ring, or the pump make, model and size and which ring it is.
  2. The material grade and condition, or "match the original".
  3. Quantity now, and any repeat quantity.
  4. The date the pump must run, and whether it is a breakdown.
  5. Any documents you need, such as a mill certificate or an inspection report.

Questions buyers ask

Who makes pump wear rings in Gauteng?

MSE (Mechanical Spares & Engineering) makes casing and impeller wear rings to drawing at 28 Shaft Road, Knights, Germiston, east of Johannesburg. It has been in business since 1977. Call (011) 828 9825 or email orders@mse.engineer.

Can you make a wear ring from the old ring?

Send or bring the old ring with the pump make and model and the material if you know it. MSE tells you on the quote whether the replacement can be made from it, or what else it needs, such as the size of the mating part.

Do you make wear rings in duplex?

Yes. MSE has made casing and impeller wear rings in duplex 1.4462 to drawing, some with Stellite 6 hardfacing. It also machines super duplex 1.4501 (S32760 family) for other pump parts. Ask for a mill certificate at quote stage if you need one.

Can you make wear rings in batches?

Yes. Small batches of wear rings run on MSE’s two CNC turning centres; one-off rings are also turned on conventional lathes, and large rings on our gap-bed lathe.

Can you make large-diameter wear rings?

Yes. Large-diameter rings are turned on our gap-bed lathe. Send the drawing and we confirm the size on the quote.

Quality

Checked against your drawing and revision.

  • Your order is checked against the drawing number and revision. If they differ, we ask you to confirm in writing.
  • Parts are inspected against your drawing.
  • Run-out is checked on ground shafts.
  • Tell us at quote stage which documents you need, and the quote will say which we supply.
