How we make them

  • Turning: two CNC turning centres for batches; conventional and heavy-duty lathes, and a gap-bed lathe for large diameters.
  • Grinding: a Ribon RUR-E 1500 universal cylindrical grinder.
  • Keyways: milled on our knee and turret mills; internal keyways cut on a Sachman vertical slotter.
  • Hardfacing, coatings and heat treatment: through specialist partners when your drawing calls for them.
  • Inspection: against your drawing on our surface table.

Questions buyers ask

Who can make a balance disc or balance drum to drawing in South Africa?

MSE (Mechanical Spares & Engineering) in Germiston, Gauteng, makes balance discs and balance drums to the customer’s drawing and material. Send the drawing number and revision, the material and the quantity to orders@mse.engineer.

Can you make a special nut to a sample?

Yes. MSE makes nuts to a sample when there is no drawing, and has made piston-rod nuts and other special nuts this way. Impeller nuts and locknuts are made to drawing.

Do you make impellers?

No. MSE does not make impellers. We machine impellers that you supply, from a single operation to full machining. See machining your castings.

Quality

Checked against your drawing and revision.

  • Your order is checked against the drawing number and revision. If they differ, we ask you to confirm in writing.
  • Parts are inspected against your drawing.
  • Run-out is checked on ground shafts.
  • Tell us at quote stage which documents you need, and the quote will say which we supply.
